A walk through the night (part 1)
a tale of perseverance and persistence

How was your night sweetheart?” Jeffery asked planting a kiss on Joan’s forehead amidst smiles. Joan woke up but didn’t respond immediately, she simply opened her eyes slightly, threw her hands into the air like she wants to catch something. “good morning your highness” she greeted “yea baby how was your night” he asked “couldn’t have been better with you by my side” she said smiling really hard and winking alongside. “see washy, nice to hear though” he said while kissing her on her lips. He was taking more time and was taking the kiss deeper before Joan pushed him aside. “You are gonna be late for work” she admonished. “Let’s pray dear” she said as she held his hands. They both shut their eyes and sang a few praises and then prayed together before Joan rounded up the prayers. “Go take your bath quickly if you don’t want a quarry from that your stubborn boss while I fix breakfast quickly; it will be ready before you are through” she said getting up from the bed and walking towards the kitchen. Jeff is a full time staff of one of the new generation banks. He was actually the cash officer for his branch and that was a huge position saddled with lots of responsibilities, discipline and carefulness. He was enjoying his job though; being a banker has never been one his dreams while growing up. He is a chemical engineer by training but his now a banker, a senior one at that. Jeff has always loved travelling and adventure. In fact, it took him lots of effort to learn to sit at a position. It was difficult during his early days on his job. Sheer discipline saw him through those early days. Sitting down for a long time and clicking mouse, answering the intercom were really not his thing. But he enjoyed the aspect of relating with people. Since he really needed job and banks were recruiting, he simply grabbed it with both hands and was grateful to God for that. He will complain and mutter to himself. He had to encourage himself in the lord like David in the bible did. With time he got to adjust and started doing really well. Jeff is a very jovial and dedicated guy. Whatsoever he chooses to do, he gives his best. Perhaps this virtue has helped him grow really quickly up the ladder of his job that in 7 years he was already a cash officer of a very big branch in a capital city. Everybody seems to like Jeff because of his easy demeanour, smiling nature and approachability. It’s never a dull moment with him around. The energy he emits is contagious. His charisma gets ladies wishing he were their man. “You simply can’t stay around Jeff and be bored” Cynthia told her friend and colleague Stella during one of their office gossips. Stella went ahead to confide in Cynthia and told her that she actually had a crush on Jeff at a point. Though she told Jeff but he laughed it off and didn’t really take it serious. But indeed she was serious. Jeff has a way of disarming ladies. They will have no options than to accept him as a friend and that’s it. Perhaps this ability of Jeff has saved him from the many ladies that seem to flock themselves around successful handsome bankers. He has a way of drawing the line between official and informal and he never compromised his relationship. He loved Joan inside out. Joan and Jeff were having a swell relationship, almost perfect. Joan wouldn’t have prayed for a better man... To be continued. Culled from Anthony Nwose (series)
